Well, it was a close one, but we made it through midterms. Here are some of the songs that we think helped us survive that miserable time of the year:
"Cleopatra" by The Lumineers
"How Far I'll Go" by Auli'i Cravalho
"Faith (feat. Ariana Grande)" by Stevie Wonder
"Ophelia" by The Lumineers
"Consideration" by Rihanna
"All That Jazz" by Catherine Zeta-Jones
"Mr. Brightside" by The Killers
"Sofia" by Alvaro Soler
"Fading Bright Eyes Dark" by Scars On 45
"Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara
Do you listen to any of these songs during late-night study sessions? Do you have any additions to the list? Let us know!

Urinetown
Over the weekend I saw BHS's performance of Urinetown. It was so good!!!! The music was very different and fun. There were many songs that I really liked. The performance was really well done and the singers were amazing! The dancing was good (being a dancer, I judge pretty harshly) but the dancing was actually really good!
Here is a list of some of the songs I liked:
Mr. Cladwell:

As you can tell, I liked a lot of songs from this musical.
It was a funny musical and a little depressing but overall I really enjoyed it and BHS did a great job!

Lost Stars
Recently, I watched a really great and well-made movie called Begin Again. It was basically all about what music can mean to different people and how powerful it can be, and it just made me really happy to see a movie that was all about that kind of stuff. I loved the soundtrack, mostly because I really like the genre of music that was used in the movie, but also because it was interesting to see how all of the songs were used to communicate different messages. Also, it has a pretty great cast (Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, Hailee Steinfeld, James Corden, and CeeLo Green, to name a few).
Anyways, there's a song in the movie called "Lost Stars" that was pretty amazing. It was actually nominated for Best Original Song at the 2015 Oscars, but it lost to "Glory" from Selma (which I'm sure was a great song as well). The interesting thing about this song is that there two different versions in the movie, one by Keira Knightley and one by Adam Levine, which have two noticeably different styles. I think it's pretty cool to compare the two.
- Here's Keira Knightley's version (note: I wouldn't say she has the strongest singing voice, but give her a break. This was her first ever singing role, after all!):
- And here's Adam Levine's version:
As hard of a decision as it is, I think I prefer Keira Knightley's version, but I'd be interested to find out if watching the movie swayed my opinion at all.
Take some time two compare the two, and decide on which one you like better! Or don't, no one's forcing you to. Either way, I hope you enjoyed the listen!
So if you're ever looking for a movie to watch, I'd definitely recommend this one :)

(Bonus: This is the coolest scene in the movie)

Youtube Video: Hey Jude in a Minor Key??
*Late night cool YouTube video find!!*
Side note: Senior slide = lots of late night procrastination through an endless slew of YouTube videos.
I just found this really cool cover of Hey Jude by The Beatles tonight after getting sucked into the YouTube vortex. It's the song in a minor key and it really messes with your brain for a while, but after a while you kind of sink into it and it is actually pretty interesting.
Thoughts?

What We Do
Like all great weddings, we begin this marriage of music and discussion with "ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today..."
We could all very well spend half an hour every Wednesday afternoon simply chatting nonsense, but now that Josie and I have college applications (in a part, at least) out of the way, let's talk about why we come, why you guys come.
Music club seems like a casual place just to chat about anything, and in a sense, it is! But the underlying message under these simple conversations is one of acceptance and friendship. There are many different friend groups that meet up in Music Club, and yet so much mingling. If anyone not familiar with the club were to step in and sit for a second, all they would hear was overlapping conversation marked with the shouting of different artists and songs. This controlled chaos is what draws at least several people here every Wednesday, despite all the crazy schedules and activities.
So please come back! Discussion is what makes this club go round.
