Playlist: Contemplation for the Heavy Soul

Hey Music Lovers!

This is a playlist that I made a little while ago and thought I would share. I made it on 8tracks which is this super cool website that lets you make playlists to share with others and I kind of use it 24/7 because it is the best thing ever.

I made this playlist as a representation of songs that I listen to when I just need time to sit down and think, or maybe even to escape my own thoughts for a while and listen to someone else sing theirs. It includes The 1975, Jaymes Young, Ed Sheeran, and lots of others.

Happy listening!

April Come She Will

The first time I heard this little tune, I thought it was rather cute and calming. Paul Simon has a way with his guitar that sounds so light it'll drift away if you don't grab on to it. Not to mention, I was watching the episode of Parks and Rec when Andy and April throw a surprise wedding and she walks down the aisle with April Come She Will playing in the background. It automatically registered in my mind as the perfect love song.
That is not the case.
I actually listened to the lyrics for once, and tried to really decipher what kind of love Simon was describing. I instead heard a seemingly innocent song about a fleeting relationship. "A love once new has now grown old."
This was another reason to tack on to the list of why I love Simon and Garfunkel so very much. The song is only a little over 12 lines long and doesn't even clock in 2 minutes, yet it tells an intricate narrative of young love. It often starts strong and passionately, "streams swelled with rain", a whirlwind of emotion. By summertime, they'll become restless, and itch to take flight. Once fall turns the corner, they have drifted apart, moving on to a new place.

It's very simple, a trait I find a lot of music lacks these days, not that I'm criticizing. It's just, our lives are more out there, and everything moves so quickly we run the risk of not catching up. Few pay attention to the wallpaper and instead stare at the large, beaming object in the middle of the room. We all do it at some point; it's so much easier to look at the exciting stuff, the advertisements and pop music. Sometimes it's nice to sit quietly and maybe let the mind make the magic instead of passively taking it in.
